Waxing Your Legs
Waxing your legs is not as easy as it may seem. A lot of people try it and end up coming along to a salon to get a professional to do it. This is only a good idea if the beauty therapist knows what she is doing, unfortuanately they don't all these days.So let me help you and teach you a step by step guide on how to go about waxing. Now this is instructions for your legs, but there are other areas to like: One important thing to be aware of with waxing your legs is the length of the hair, it needs to be at least 1 cm otherwise it won't stick to the wax. Okay below is the equipment needed: Good quality wax. After care products to soothe and calm the skin. A good set of tweezers. Wax heater. Spatulas. Paper or material wax strips. Cotton wool and talc. There are lots of places on the Internet who will supply you with these kits. I used to use Sally Beauty Supply Store

Step by Step Instructions.First you need to prepare your skin with your skin cleanser, this ensures your skin is clean. Assuming your hairs are 1 cm in length, you now need to lightly dust your legs with talc. The reason for this is it helps to have the hair stand on end, it creates a barrier between the skin and the wax and finally it helps minimise the sting when you remove the wax. One thing I forgot to say make sure your wax is not to hot, or to cool, test it on your wrist first before using it, if your wax seems to runny then chances is it is far to hot, thick and gloopy is to cool. So just move your dial on your heater just below half way, but check the instructions of the heater and the wax.Okay now that the wax is the right temperature for you you are now ready to be waxing your legs. So with your spatula, dip the wooden spatula into the wax pot, removing excess wax of the spatula.
Now you need to start at the top of your leg, allow the wax to land on the skin and from the top spread the wax down your leg, it's like spreading butter down the leg, do it quickly and with practice it will become easier. The golden rule here to remember when waxing your legs or any other area is when you are applying the wax make sure you go in the direction of the hair growth and when you are using the wax strip to remove the hair it is against the growth. What you tend to find sometime especially on the inner thigh the hairs might be growing on a diagonal, so just look at the direction and apply the wax , usually it will be going downwards but not always. If you apply the wax the wrong way it will appear to look lumpy and it will be a challenge to remove it and the hairs won't come out. Also you can only go over and area with wax twice maximum otherwise you will end up burning your skin, not good. You just bear this in mind when you are waxing your legs.
You will have a few attempts no doubt, I did when I was training all those years ago. So the wax should be looking even and now with your wax strip cover it over the wax, rubbing it on the skin with the palm of your hand, starting at the bottom use your left hand to stretch your skin and then pull with your right hand(If you are left handed the opposite will apply). The tauter the skin the better. Once you have pulled the strip rub your skin. Don't dab the wax strip over an area where there is excess wax, just rub it over the area again, dabbing the skin to remove excess wax can cause bruising. I see a lot of professionals do this and it's a bad habit as far as I am concerned. Be firm but gentle and a good speed over time. Don't be a bull in a china shop. And just repeat the process over the rest of your legs. Once you have waxed it all apply your soothing lotion, making sure it is specifically for using with wax. The product should say after wax or post wax soothing cream or words to that effect. If you find any stray hair you can use your tweezers to pull them out. Some people recommend using lavender oil etc, personally I say no just use products which are designed for using with wax, play it safe. One thing to bear in mind is time of month your skin can be a lot more sensitive, so wait till after. Also it is a good idea to exfoliate your legs the day before as this helps the process more.

Things to be aware of when waxing your legs. The most important point is really make sure you stretch the skin, having it as taught as possible otherwise you will get a nasty bruise, especially if waxing your upper legs, the inside of the thigh is most sensitive and the skin is slightly looser there with some people, not everyone. Always do make sure to test the wax first on your wrist, you may find some areas of the legs are more sensitive, for example the top of your thighs and the inside of the leg. Also the back of the knees. Some waxes are water soluble but most aren't and it is messy stuff, make sure you invest in a wax remover cleaner for your machine. Surgical spirits is good to have also to keep your tweezers clean. It is also good to use to wipe down your wax pot. When you first start waxing your legs and have been shaving before you will feel the hair to be a lot courser, but with waxing it will grow in finer, and the other thing is when you go to wax the hair for the first time it may bleed, some of the hairs may snap and therefore do not get pulled out from the root. Best thing to do is to leave them and get them the next time you are going to be waxing your legs. If you need more information on waxing then you can go to my other my other page.
