Skin Microdermabrasion

Skin microdermabrasion salon and home treatments are a really popular way to help delay the signs of ageing and also to improve the appearance of uneven skin tone.

I first tried this many years ago, and it was really good, my skin felt so smooth afterwards. The weird thing was though I could feel little crystals in my mouth, I was crunching them, however the treatments was excellent. The salon used the Crystal Clear Microdermabrasion machine.

Below is more information which I have had to research from wikipedia as I really don't know how it all came about. This is to just give you more information.

History of Microdermabrasion.

The first skin microdermabrasion unit was developed in Italy in 1985, using small inert aluminium oxide crystals to abrade the skin.

In 1986, other European markets had introduced the technology, which was immediately adopted by physicians for mechanical exfoliation.

There were 10 microdermabrasion units on the market in Europe by the end 0f 1992. In 1996, Mattioli Engineering partnered with one of the Italian designed machines and started working towards meeting FDA requirements for the USA.

By the end of 1996, the FDA issued the first approval letter for microdermabrasion machines. In January 1997, the first skin microdermabrasion machine was being sold and marketed in the US. The diamond tip was introduced in 1999 and the bristle tip was introduced in 2005.

The system has evolved from rocks, stones and shells to crystals, particle-free diamond tips and particle-free bristle tips.

The popular, preferred method of mechanical exfoliation is crystal free microdermabrasion. Once the desired amount of exfoliation has been reached, some units will then infuse a skin specific solution into the skin.

By infusing the solution, it will penetrate deeper than if applied manually for two reasons. The first is because the dead skin has been removed, so product penetration increases.

The second is because the vacuum pressure works in reverse to push it in deeper. Results are significantly greater from skin microdermabrasion treatments combined with an infusion technique.

I have had the skin microdermabreasion done as I said and it was really good my skin was baby soft, I have to say I was skeptical but the beauty therapist showed me differently.

Now the machine she had was the Crystal Clear Microdermabrasion System. A really good machine and company. Below though we are going to explore more benefits and how doing this at home is just as good.

Skin Microdermabrasion Benefits:

  • You can give yourself a complete facial in less than 30 minutes.
  • It is perfect for aging skin as it helps to reduces fine lines and wrinkles. Giving the skin a smooth and clearer appearance.
  • It will give your skin excellent results for the treatment for acne scarring pigmentation and sun damaged skin. This is great also as any skin care products that you use, will penetrate the layers of the skin better.
  • It is even great as a preparation to exfoliate the skin before the application of self tanning products. Nothing worse than patchy look self tan.
  • It is highly effective in reducing the appearance of stretch marks and minimizing the orange peel effect of cellulite. Now a lot of women suffer from this and it can really get them down.
  • If you use firming creams after wards the product will penetrate deeper.
  • Also great to do before any waxing hair removal treatment, as this will help prevent ingrown hairs.

You can also do skin microdermabrasion treatments on your hands and feet. Great for doing your own manicure and an added extra if you are looking for more pedicure ideas.
