A good skin care routine is easy to do at home and is not time consuming, it is only this way if that's how you see it.
You see in the years of me doing
facial chemical peels
in the Beauty Salon the number of people who said I don't have time well I am here to show you you do.
So if you are ready let's look at your good skin care routine in more detail. The basic routine is to do the following:
Cleanse
Tone
Moisturise
So now we can look at each in more detail and also look at extra things you can once or twice a month.
Cleansing
This can be done using many dfferent types of products:
Wash of cleansers.
Cream / Lotion Cleanser.
So here is the difference and how you would use them. Okay let's look at for example a busy mum who needs to get the kids organised etc, a wash of cleanser is great and is also particularily good if you have an oilier skin type, as it is like soap but it doesn't dry the skin out. Now this type of cleanser is quick and easy, use it like you would a soap. It leaves the skin feeling fresh and clean.
Okay next the cream cleansers which are used on a dry skin, all you need to do is massage it all over the face except the eyes and then removed with damp cotton wool.
There are ones which are moisturising, hydrating, deep cleansing etc. You then follow with toner which again you put on a damp piece of cotton wool and go over the whole face apart form the eyes.
Toners
These temporarily close the pores and like water leaves the skin fresh and tingly, by the way you don't need to use a toner with the facial wash only if you want to.
Exfoliating
Exfoliating your skin is an essential part of a good skin care routine because it will get rid of dead skin. Dead skin builds up everyday, they do say 90% of dust in a house is dead skin, how nice is that... So we need to keep it at bay sensibly and by that I mean doing it once or twice a month.
Dead skin on the surface clogs the pores, prevents your products from reaching the deeper layers of the skin and also can cause dry patches on the surface.
Another thing also is they prevent new skin cells reproducing and coming to the surface which in turn makes your skin glow and look healthy. So you would do this after cleansing.
Moisturiser
This also includes an eye and night cream. So in the morning you would apply the appropiate moisturiser for your skin type, so for example a dry skin will like a heavy cream.
A combination skin will like a light one and if your skin is oily then a light mattifying one. Then follow with eye cream. I would say this is a very important part of a good skin care routine. We all want to feel soft skin.
Now I was surprised recently when someone told me she had heard not to put the eye cream on the top eyelid and to just put it on the top of the cheek bone.
Well I say no to that, personally I think you should apply it to the top and bottom eyelid and if you are using a good quality eye cream then their is not a problem with a reaction.
At night you would use the night cream and eye cream although some people don't buy a seperate night cream, I personally do as night creams tend to be more nourishing and thicker with more active ingrediants which is good for the skin when you are sleeping, helps keep premature ageing away.
Now a good skin care routine tip is this: In the morning you are getting ready for work, getting the kids ready for school etc the time is an issue for you.
Now as long as you have thoroughly cleaned your skin the night before, you could just use a toner and moisturiser as the toner will remove any surface oil and temporarily close the pores and then follow with your moisturiser and eye cream.
It takes no time at all and if you wear make up it will look better and feel better if you have cleaned and moisturised it before hand.
Face Mask
A face mask is good to do because it is deep cleansing, moisturising and nourishing. You can do this once a month. You use it after you have cleansed and toned the skin.
You would apply it to your face and neck, avoiuding the eye area. You would leave it on your skin for 15-20 mins depending on instructions. Then with warm water you thoroughily rinse it of your skin.
By using a mask as part of your good skin care routine, it penetrates the skin layers more, drawing out impurites, some can cause spots though, so if you have a special occasion coming up do it afterwards. It can hydrate, calm, and soothe the face and neck, some masks are also firming, they do so much these days.
So you see it doesn't have to take up loads of time infact your good skin care routine could take 10 mins in the morning and at night before you go to bed you could spend an extra 5 minutes really cleansing your skin, preparing it for a good nourishing sleep. It also psychologically, makes you feel better if you go to bed with clean and hydrated skin.
At the end of the day as they say what you put out is what you get back, you reap what you sow, so if you want healthy, younger looking skin then it is a must to have a good skin care routine that becomes a healthy enjoyable habit.
