Dramatic eye make up application tips
Using my knowledge I am passing on to you techniques on how to learn how to do dramatic eye make up
application.
A lot of people are not confident when it comes to make up application, a lot of my former clients were scared in case it looked silly or they made a mistake. Well all I can say is with practice comes perfection, just like I did I kept practicing.
One thing I also need to say before we begin, for those of you who have allergies, you need to make sure the make up will be suitable, some people need to use gluten free make up. This will make a big difference because you are using what is right for your skin.
Below is my step by step guide.
Step One Preparation.
Okay well before you do anything the first tip on dramatic eye make up application is for you to prepare your skin. So once you have done this, it is also a good idea to apply an eye cream under your moisturiser.
Step Two
Foundation.
So next you need to apply your foundation one that is the right colour and does not look orange or too dark. Make sure when you choose the colour, you test it on your jawline, this way you will get the right shade.
Don't test it on your wrist, hands can take the sun more than the face sometimes, the face is where you are applying it. Another good idea when testing the foundation is to make sure you are as close to natural light as possible.
Best to apply with a latex sponge and blend it in well. Blending in around the jawline and make sure that you do sweeping movements to blend into the hairline also.
Step Three
Applying Eyeshadow and Eyeliner.
A good tip for
dramatic make up application is to put a bit of translucent face powder on your eyelids, this makes sure your eyeshadow doesn't crease and last's all day, great if you are going to a wedding etc..
Now you need to decide on what colour of eyeliner is going to suit, the reason being when you are going for the dramatic eye make up application the eyeliner is a must. A lot of the time black is the preferable colour.
A good dark brown or grey, blue, green, purple etc would also be great but it really does depend on your eye colour and shape. For example, if you have blue eyes the only colour to stay away from is blue. The other colours of grey, brown, black, green, purple etc will really show up your eye colour.
With brown eyes this is the exception to the rule, you can ware any colour. And with green eyes you stay away from green. The main theme with doing dramatic eye make up application is to have your eyes really stand out they are after all one of your best features and everyone looks at them.
Another good tip for dramatic eye make up application is that when the colour is chosen then you need to decide, do you use an eye pencil of liquid eye liner, I personally recommend both, use the pencil first to get your line, then go over it with the liquid after you have applied your eye shadow.
So the next tip is how to apply eyeliner. This is where people panic a bit and are very unsure. First thing is to make sure if you are using a pencil, you sharpen it first as this gives you a better line.
A good tip for dramatic eye make up application is if you stand in front of a mirror or sit in front of your mirror, nice and comfortable. Do whatever eye you want to do first, it doesn't matter. Okay now you want to stretch the upper lid and starting at the corner working your line across the eyelid.
Where it ends depends on the size and shape of your eye. I will show you this later. Now it is a good idea that when you are doing this you have a steady hand, a way to achieve this is to have a surface below your elbow, so you can lean on it.
This will help you to steady the arm that stretches the eyelid.
When you draw the liner try to relax and let the pencil flow. A good quality soft pencil is best as you will not drag the skin and it will just glide along the eyelid.
You then have to choose the appropriate eye shadow, so the same rule applies when choosing the colour of eye shadow
for your dramatic eye make up application. It depends on the colour of your eyes.
Another great technique is to put a darker colour on the bottom eyelid and lighter on the top. This way you are making the eye bigger and also depending how you apply the colour it can make the eye shape different.
**Another good make up tip for dramatic eye make up application is this, if your eyes are small never put your eyeliner all the way along the top or bottom lid as you will make them look even smaller, you need to do half way along the top and bottom. The only eye size that can go all the way across is big eyes**
Also you can use really vibrant eye shadow colours
if you like with a metallic, frosted or shimmery finish. You can use 2 or 3 colours but sometimes two is better. Really take time to blend it well.
By using a sponge applicator this tends to give you a darker finish for dramatic eye make up application as opposed to a brush which I feel is much softer, although I do use a good quality brush for blending the colours.
This is an important part as it can look silly if it is not blended properly. I suggest spending time with this step. My final makeup tip is to finish with mascara or false eyelashes whatever you prefer.
With mascara it is best to apply on the bottom lashes first of both eyes then the top eyelids. This will really finish of the dramatic eye make up application to make those eyes really stand out. I hope my make up tips will help you and remember keep practicing.
