Dark eye make up
I love dark eye make up but a lot of people get confused with how to achieve the look. I will share my knowledge with you and together we will have some fun.
The most important role for you in all this is to practice, practice, practice... This is what I did, I was 12 years old when I first started experimenting with make up. My mum many years ago bought me Girls World Doll, you could apply make up to it, do it's hair, I loved it.
Little did I realise where this would lead to, anyway, when I was 12 my cousin was my guinea pig, boy it was sometimes a mess...but this is what got me to where I am today!
So if you are ready, let's begin with ideas etc about dark eye make up. First of all you need to make sure your skin is in good condition and also to understand your skin type.
As this I feel is very important and makes a difference, infact the skin around your eyes ages quickly so it is a good idea to invest in a good eye cream.
Now in order to start learning about dark eye make up you need to have tools and products, good ones preferably as this does make a huge difference.
Their are lots of different companies out there so do some research, what works for one person may not work for someone else.
So here are some tips for creating the dark eye make up look. Depending on your eye shape and colour will depend where you are going to be applying your eye shadow and eye liner.
Also your eye colour plays a big part to, when you get things right it makes a big differs. So here is the first stage in dark eye make up application.
Step One
After applying a suitable eye cream it is goof to have applied the appropriate foundation all over your face with a latex sponge preferably. Applying it also over your eye lids. Then a great tip is to apply translucent powder. The reason for this is so that your eye shadow doesn't crease and will last all day as long as you do not rub your eye.
As I said before tools are important and a brush is good for blending and gives a softer finish where as a sponge applicator gives a heavier look.
So first of all I tend to apply a base colour first, so a creamy white, and you can use a frosted or matte eye shadow it is up to you, this is something I have always done, it gives the desired effect I want.
Now as I said before your eye shape will make a big impact on where you are going to apply your eye shadow.
Then you can apply a dark eye make up colour, so for example, a dark brown, grey, black, mauve etc. So these colours are very popular and when you are matching them to your eye colour it will make a big difference. I believe you need to make your eyes stand out.
Step Two
Now once you have applied your chosen colour and you have applied it in the right place that is say for example, all over the eyelid for big eyes or maybe just the outer corner for smaller eyes, you will then want to apply eyeliner.
Again eye shapes play a part in this to. Also you have a choice to make do you use a pencil or liquid eye liner. The liquid is definately more dramatic. It is also a bit more of a challenge applying it.
Now this is so important that if you want the liquid eye liner you get a good one, and by this I mean the tip of the eye liner must be firm and pointed and narrow.
Some of the cheaper brands are not so good and can look a real mess when using them, perhaps you have had this problem already when you have been practicing how to apply dark eye make up.
Also it can be tricky steadying your hand in order to get a fine straight line. So it is good to do the following:
If you stand in front of a mirror or sit in front of your mirror, nice and comfortable. Do whatever eye you want to do first, it doesn't matter. Okay now you want to stretch the upper lid and starting at the corner working your line across the eyelid.
Now it is a good idea also that when you are doing this you have a steady hand like I said earlier so a way to achieve this is to have a surface below your elbow, so you can lean on it.
This will help you to steady the arm that stretches the eyelid. When you draw the liner try to relax and let the pencil or liquid flow.
Most often a dark eyeliner like brown or black is best to use. Sometimes also you can apply wet eye shadow to under the eyelid, tis gives a soft but dark look, you do need a firm thin brush and you need to dampen it and then dampen the eye shadow also.
You can also use a lighter, frosted damp eye shadow in the inner corner of the bottom eye lid, this makes your eyes bigger looking. Then you are ready for the next step as long as you are happy with the look you have achieved so far.
Step Three
Applying mascara to finish your dark eye make up look. These come in so many different textures and colours, you can get waterproof, nourishing, lengthening etc.
Find one you like and then apply it this way. Oh before I forget have a damp cotton bud on hand and the sponge you used for your foundation, because how many times have you applied your mascara and got it on your skin.
This lovely black blob! Okay first of all make sure their isn't too much mascara on the wand and that your mascara is no more than 4-5 months old.
Then you can apply it to your bottom lashes first, let it dry for a few seconds and then apply it to your top lashes. If you do get it on your skin use the damp cotton bud to remove it and apply a tiny bit of foundation over the area and blend it finely.
Now some people can't wear mascara so you do a couple of things, you can get your eyelashes tinted and then apply false eye lashes, so no need for mascara, this will give you a dramatic look.
So it is fun and it is just a case of practicing at home when you are learning how to do your own dark eye make up.I hope you have enjoyed this advice and good luck, keep practicing.
