Applying eye make up easily
Applying eye make up is just a case of practicing. So many women want to learn this as make up is fun, I mean I love it and first started experimenting with it when I was 12.
At my younger cousin's expense...I used to watch my mum, although she didn't wear much, she had lovely sallow skin, so all she did was to wear blusher and lipstick. She had amazing big blue eyes and dark lashes, so she never wore mascara.
I remember her lilac/pinky lipstick, which I used to borrow, without asking I have to say...sorry mum. Anyway back to
applying eye make up.
So getting down to basics, it is a good idea to follow a good skin care routine and know your skin type. I always emphasise this as I feel it makes a huge difference. The reason being that you will be using the right products for your skin type which will improve not only the look of your eye make up but also the feel of it.
One thing I want to say before I forget is it is a good idea to invest in a make up remover and the best eye make up remover I have used is Sothys. I love their products and have used them since 2002 and on a lot of my clients from when I had a beauty salon.
Okay back to business, let's begin:
Step One.
Apply your chosen foundation all over your face and eyes with preferably a latex sponge.
Then apply a translucent powder just over the eyelids, this is an important part when applying eye make up as it ensures your eye shadow etc doesn't crease and will last all day, especially if you are using quality products.
Personaly, good make up makes a big difference, as I have tried the cheaper quality make up, not to say there aren't companies who have gotten a good balance with quality and price. I use Sothys which is a French company and Patricia Milton an Italian make up range, both are equally good and a good price in my opinion and they last ages too..
Step Two.
Now you have a few things to decide here, first of all what sort of look do you want for example do you want to do the do the smokey eye make up look, or a day time natural look, perhaps even go for the glamour eye make up look, so much really!
So let us look at smokey eyes as this seems to be fashoinable at the moment. You are going to need the following products when applying eye make up and these are just basic products, you can use more.
-
Dark Eye shadow like dark brown, dark grey, black, dark navy blue, dark green, dark mauve. Also the texture could be matte, which is probably best but you could also go for shimmer or frosted.
-
Light eye shadow like a cream, pale peach, pale pink, pale lilac, silver, white, again matte, frosted or shimmer texture.
-
Dark eyeliner, this could be pencil or liquid. I would have both.
-
Dark mascara preferably black..and waterproof would be better, no smudging then.
So now we need to get started applying these products, now depending on your eye colour, so for example:
-
Blue Eyes suit the following colours:
-
Green, Pink, Peach, Brown, Grey, Purple, Silver colours.
-
Green eyes suit the following colours:
Brown, Blue, Purple, Pink, Peach, Grey.
-
Brown eyes suit the following colours:
-
Peach, Brown, Grey, Purple, Pink, Green, Bronze, Cream.
You can now start, so first of all it is best when applying eye make up to use a sponge applicator for the smokey eye make up look, because it gives the overall look a darker finish, a brush softens the look.
Apply your chosen darker colour all along the bottom eyelid. Right up to the brow socket. Then you can use your lighter colour, like a silver or cream, on the top eyelid. Use a brush to blend your colours. As you can see form the image above.
Blending is so important, other wise it doesn't look right. Next you need to apply your eyeliner as this really does finish of the look. With your eyeliner, if using a pencil make sure you sharpen it, and if you are using a liquid liner make sure it has a firm narrowish brush, otherwise it is a bit messy.
When applying your eyeliner make sure to stretch your eyelid, and go from the outside corner in, then do the bottom lid. Now depending on your eye shape, if you have small eyes, it would be a good idea to just apply the eyeliner to the outer corners of the top and bottom lid.
This will open out your eye more. Another tip for applying eye make up is instead of using a liquid or pencil eyeliner you can use eye shadow.
Make sure you have a firm narrow brush, dampen it with water and then dip it into your eyeshadow, you can do this with most eye shadows. I do this a lot as I like the finished result. Now another thing I like to do if I am going somewhere special is to apply a bit of glitter to the eyeshadow on my bottom eye lid.
I love sparkle, and it just seems to open your eyes out more and really this is what you are wanting to achieve. Big eyes!
The last tip for applying eye make up is your mascara. It is best to apply the mascara to the bottom lashes first on both eyes, then the top lashes. Also it is a good idea to have a damp cotton bud handy just incase you get mascara on your skin, it does happen, I have done it so many times.
So what you would do, is to remove the mascara of the skin with the damp cotton bud, let it dry and then apply a tiny bit of foundation onto the area with your sponge.
So I hope you have enjoyed my applying eye make up tips.
